About Morning Tea Talks

Morning Tea Talks is a perinatal support initiative aimed at providing empowering support to women having children through building resilience, social networks and community resources.

The initiative was developed from a simple but important belief: when women are supported to reconnect with themselves, with each other and with their communities, they thrive – and so do their children.

Morning Tea Talks provide a place where new and expecting mothers can come together to have a laugh, share a cup of tea, find information, get a hand or lend a hand, and learn how to build their own village.

Study Aims

The transition to parenthood is profound, bringing with it many joys and challenges and often reshaping a woman’s sense of self.

Research continues to show that social connection is vital for improving mental health and wellbeing and reducing the negative impact of trauma and stress on psychological and physical health.

The Morning Tea Talks study aims to:

  • Provide a safe and friendly environment with the mother’s voice at the heart of the group.
  • Empower participants to guide the content of the Morning Tea Talks sessions, including suggestions for guest speakers.
  • Provide an ongoing support network or “village” for mothers.
